The SPC 2011 AGM was held Sunday 29th. Thanks to everyone who attended!

The input was greatly appreciated. And the desire is that the 2012 season will be bigger & better than ever!

Some changes to the Executive line-up this year. Dave Berrisford remains as club President but has handed off the Treasurer position to Jim Douglas, who handed over the Secretary role to Jon Wescott.

A newly-minted “Social/Fundraising” Director was added. Emma Mullings will working on projects to increase the social aspect of the club as well, develop fundraising drives to help develop a cadre of Instructors and Trip Leaders for future SPC offerings. Welcome aboard Emma!

The most major change is Dave Morriss stepping down from the Vice-President position.

Dave was and always will be considered one of the key founding members of the resurrected Squamish Paddling Club. Without his contribution, the founding days of the club would have been much more difficult. Please take any opportunity to thank him for his work!

If you’re interested the minutes from the meeting will be posted in the very near-future.

You’ve probably noticed that the Mamquam River Camera has been down for quite some time. My apologies that I have’nt addressed this yet, but life intruded in the form of prepping for and then road-tripping south the kayak and raft the Colorado River.Grand Canyon.  (more later)

Well, I’m back & I am hoping to get in there to trouble-shoot it (once again), but please understand that this is a very complicated, time-consuming process.

Sincerely, Jim

Received from Test of Metal Inc. May 24, 2011

Please be advised that the Test of Metal Mountain Bike Race is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Access to and from the kayaking areas of the Mamquam River is restricted by a Ministry of Forests approved closure of the Mamquam Forest Service Road for most of the day.

A shuttle bus service will be offered on race day to move people safely between the powerhouse area and Highway 99.  The shuttle operators will do their best to move people as demand warrants.  We hope that waits for the service will be kept as short as possible.
Please help us raise the awareness of our event and its potential impact on the kayaking community by sharing this information with as many kayak enthusiasts as you can.
We welcome your feedback on our plans and wish to work with you and the kayak community to keep the impacts of the race to a minimum.
Should you have any questions or concerns, kindly contact me at 604.815.7318.
Kind Regards,

John French
